St Cuthberts Church Kirkleatham
This site has been hallow ground since the ninth century when the Monks with St Cutherbert remains rested in these parts.
The church, as we see it today, was probably constructed in 1731 and the Turner Mausoleum in 1739.The oak pews were originally tall boxes, but were cut down in 1875.
The Church has numerous connections with Sir William Turner of Kirkleatham.
Some of the stone walling was ballast out of the old sailing ships.
The Plaque is in memory of Esther Grover who was the Daughter of
President Grover of America, from 1885 - 1889, 1893 - 1897

The Church is well worth a visit.
