The March ‘Army of the Nile’ and the Hymn Dear Lord our Father of Mankind ‘Repton’ Celebrated within the film Atonement were performed at the opening of the New Redcar Bandstand on the 17th May 2008
As the first notes heralded from Marske Brass Band out across Redcar's Golden beach, the Mayor of Redcar and Cleveland, Councilor Findley officially opened the New Redcar Bandstand.
The bandstand has proved to be in the perfect place for a musical performance, the quadrangle echo's the sound back to the players and Promenades from the four story terraces houses overlooking the entrance to the Coatham enclosure.
James Chisholm the Principal Cornet of Marske Brass Band commented. “Quite often such Bandstands are placed in a Park surrounded by grass that deadens the sound of music, Redcar's new Bandstand is the best I have played in for musical quality, it will bring a lot of pleasure and fellowship to the town. However, the air conditioning off the North sea focuses the performance some what, it is fantastic that Marske Brass Band which was the last band to play on the old Redcar Bandstand under the Baton of Maestro Jack Kitchen in the 1960’s, now forty years later Redcar has finally got its Pride of place back and the Brass Band on Parade to enhance the towns tourism ambitions”
