Open letter reply to Ken Bibby, a letter to Vear Baird MP

Dear Ken,
Loss of insurance protection for property in Redcar ‘Flood and Fire’ effective loss of cover Date line September 2007 ABI.

As I understand it, if the Council want to repair the wall out of the rates at the moment, they can. Cumulatively should they sign off on the Environmental Agency plan, then the Council give away their right to resolve and defend the town to the E.A. More over, even if the towns people wanted to self defend, they could not go so far as to dig a hole on the beach without E.A. permission.

Therefore, by adopting the E.A plan, we by default drown the town. Why? It is obvious that three million pounds worth of capitol expenditure required by Redcar from the E.A. UK total defence fund of £47 million, being 6.4% of the total reserve allocated by central government, will not be awarded in the immediacy, in fact by analysing other UK experiences, never in time.

It is the insurance blight that formulates the most immediate threat, having lived in Redcar and being born during the 1953 great storm, year afterwards as a child I watch men with shovels repairing the sea walls by pouring concert into holes created by the 1953 high tide. Even then though, Redcar did not flood, has it ever?
I agree, that in some distant future with sea level rises, it might. But not in our lifetime or the distant future, though one can never say never.

The Northern Earth atmosphere natural warming
Nine tenths of the sea ice is under water.
Put ice in a glass, fill it to the brim and watch the ice melt, does the glass over flow, No!

It is the permafrost and Ice in Siberia which poses the grates threat to sea level rises if it melts. If the Earth follows it hot to cold planetary cycle we have another 5-10,000 years before we reach the warmest part of this 250,000 year natural earth cycling phase.

Archaeologist will tell you in the British Isles and Europe have also had mini ice ages interspaced in the 250,000 year recurring cycle, being caused by Volcanic eruptions when, in a violent short rapid cycle of eruptions, like Mount St Helens erupting in congruency with another few similar volcanoes along a fault line. Such a mini Ice age is formulated by ash & sulphur dioxide in the upper stratosphere being caused by these eruptions. We have been here at least +50 times in our history, with the ice taking 75,000 years to retreat. Mount St Helens lifted more pollution into the atmosphere in 10 seconds than man in the UK has made in a Century.

It is estimated that if the Siberia was forested with man help to advance the tree line quicker than the natural cycle as the ice sheet retreats, these new trees will use such water as to mitigate any sea level rise. After all, this area upon the melting of the last ice age was a lush forested area inhabited by millions Mammoths. Those seeds are naturally locked in the ground ready for their rebirth.

Redcar’s Problem
In earnest, this problem has manifest itself because of the Environmental Agency speculative high water flood maps. This only surmises what the likely effects of sea level rises would have upon the UK.

This information wrongly, has been used by the Association of British Insurers as a definitive guide to risk, indeed in Redcar case, after my challenge through the District Valuer and your good works (Ken Bibby), the original plan was deemed totally wrong and a new plan has been subsequently adopted. Though the damage had been done, in so far as the ABI issued an ultimatum based on the E.A. Redcar & Cleveland's time line date for shore line defence improvements and repair needing completion by September 2007. After which insurance cover is not available to 1000 homes.

Sadly, we all know this date will be missed by a minimum by at least 5 years, we are already seeing the results on property sales falling through in Oak Road. No doubt our MP home on the Coast Road now for sale, will suffer the same demise if her home is not sold before September 07.

To conclude, in essence we need to convince the Council to go it alone in the immediacy and effect minimalist repair and construction out of the rate funds upon the foreshore to mitigate the ABI default time line.

This work indeed to be formulated on the back of a Redcar townspeople fund raising exercise in self defence and preservation.

Like I said at the Residence Association meeting. “Where there is a will there is a way” I know the Redcar towns people like most on mass, can be domicile. However, with the resolve caused by the loss of insurance to 1000 homes in Redcar from Coatham to Green lane by September 2007 it will be the catalyst for action.
