COBLE FISHING BOATS.
Designed to be launched and landed on beaches in all weathers. Originally a boat some 30 feet long,clinker-built with oak and larch and a rectangular lugsail. The Coble is said to be a descendant of the Viking Longboat. These boats are used in the North East of England for crabbing with pots, and long line fishing, which is a line 1000 yds long with a large number of hook attached. The crabbing pots are funnel shaped to allow the crabs or lobsters to enter but unable to get back out.
